Analysis of Cyber Security Articles and Academic Writing
Cybersecurity constitutes the structures and processes involved in mitigating risks
targeting, information, and systems through detection, response, prevention, and recovery of
stolen contents (Shareeful 2018). Leakages of the information under malicious attacks cause dire
consequences to enterprises and the firm’s reputation. Such events scare off customers since a
leak in their credentials means that their finances and personal lives are at risk of either
exploitation or breach of their privacy, which is a sensitive matter. Furthermore, the cyberattacks
targeting healthcare facilities have resulted in the loss of confidential information that can cause
substantial financial implications. However, this essay seeks to analyze two articles that are key
to comprehending the status of cybersecurity. Besides, the material will cover some of the
pertinent issues concerning this significant, such as researching and analyzing the articles,
necessary information on the materials of interest, and improving writing skills in an academic
context.
Articles
The critical articles relevant to the essay were researched based on the course, and they
are outlined as follows:
Alzahrani 2
1. “Analysis of Information Security News Content and Abnormal Returns of Enterprisesâ€
by Chia-Ching Hung, 2019.
2. “Financial Consequences of Cyber Attacks Leading to Data Breaches in Healthcare
Sector†by Meisner, M., 2017.
Article Research Methods
The presence of numerous journals and articles ranging from one subject area to another
makes it challenging to obtain the right paper for review and analysis. With such an
understanding, finding the articles relevant for a cybersecurity major was based on specific
methodologies pertinent to the subject. The topical titles on cybersecurity were pasted on the
browser URL search with an article at the end and tapped enter for searching. The various items
received online were subjected to their sources to ensure they are legitimate and genuine
materials that can be relied on for analysis. Moreover, the materials were read to determine their
relevance, and recommendations from the author’s colleagues were considered. Articles were
narrowed down, and the best ones were thinking through the aims and other guidelines from the
author.
Article Analysis Methods
Understanding an article’s concept is paramount to analyzing the material, learning, sharpening
critical thinking, and increasing value in the profession. Therefore, the articles were evaluated
using approaches as getting the feel of the articles’ contents by reading through then analyzing
how the title is written by finding out whether it summarizes the theme of the material.
Moreover, the content was investigated to capture the information that was not clear enough. It
was done by asking oneself if the author did an excellent job, mainly where a new idea is
Alzahrani 3
presented. The evaluation was then done by summarizing the article’s main points and finally
formulated a personal opinion regarding the subject.
Brief Background and Writing Conventions in the Articles
The first article, “Analysis of Information Security News Content and Abnormal Returns
of Enterprises” by Chia-Ching Hung, presented fundamental insights into the impact of news
contents and outlets. The author contributes significantly to information security about
organizations. The article identifies that the leakage of corporate data damages the firm’s
reputation, resulting in financial losses. Consequently, the author investigates the relationship
between the information security of reports and the values of stocks. It was found that adverse
reports affected revenues from the stocks (Hung).
The article was interested in the recent surge in the utilization of the information system
due to increasing internet and cloud computing for improving efficiency. Therefore, the author
observes that the increasing data transmission capacity and effective computing techniques
attracted hackers who could access organizations’ sensitive and confidential data within a short
time (Hung). The imminent attacks from malicious people and software render the protection of
data a very crucial task given the massive losses that occur to the firm. In addition to reduced
income due to cyber threats, the organization suffers from a lousy reputation shunning their
clients away. Stolen credit cards belonging to the customers due to a breach causes even dire
consequences to the organization.
The article conducted empirical research organized in a structured manner, starting from
the article, introduction, secondary material review, data collection and analysis, research
methodology, presentation of results, discussion, and conclusion. This orderly manner provided
Alzahrani 4
an outline that builds the work systematically to the end. The language used in the article is
official with vocabularies maintained within the context and absence of complex or simple
language. Punctuations in the article enable a precise reading with pauses that facilitate proper
comprehension of the content by figuring out the author’s intention. Moreover, the article does
not apply the active voice in the material.
The second article, “Financial Consequences of Cyber Attacks Leading to Data Breaches
in Healthcare Sector” by Meisner, M. concentrated on the cyber threats targeting the healthcare
owing to its vulnerabilities. Breach of security in the healthcare facilities emanates from personal
and confidential data regarding the patients (Meisner). The article focused on finding the
financial consequences of cyber-attacks on the healthcare system. The paper drew data for
review from secondary sources such as the literature, reports, reviewed cases, and statistical
surveys on malice in health systems. Thus, the article found out that studies on the data breaches
in healthcare are scarce and inefficient (Meisner). Consequently, the author recommended
increased research on the area to close the information gap, particularly in Poland.
The author recognized that healthcare facilities moved from storing the patients’ data in
paper to computer-based systems. The facilities avoided ineffective communication due to paperwork through electronic platforms as the primary source of information. Moreover, the article
argues that healthcare remains among the most attacked sectors. Consequently, the industry
players rush to estimate the cost of the data breach. The organizations face the dire limitation of
resources for data protection and mitigation of an attack’s incidences. Furthermore, data
violations are rarely reported, with many pieces of research on healthcare security showing huge
disparities. It was noted that despite advancements in technology systems such as IoT, which
Alzahrani 5
facilitated treatments in healthcare and effective operations, the same technology opens more
avenues for the attackers to exploit the facilities (Meisner).
The articles’ writing conventions follow a well-structured methodology that guides the
audience systemically from the start to the end. The previous article provides a summary through
the Abstract, introduction on the subject, research methodology, data analysis, discussion, and
conclusion. The reporting language is in third persona, proper linkages of sentences and
paragraphs, lack repetitions, and the presence of clarity with every sentence. Additionally, the
article contained a well-structured use of punctuations, capitalization that is correctly used at the
start of every paragraph. Grammar in the document is appropriately used so that the subject is
presented in a more understandable form. The approach is a conventional model for writing and
presenting articles.
Conclusions on Academic Writing and Research Skills
From the articles above, writing is as vital as information being presented. Therefore,
knowing what to write is crucial since it must be both informative and direct to the context.
Moreover, writing of academic material requires correct spelling to ensure the professionalism of
the material. Proper punctuation also is critical in any literary work since it enables a scholarly
work to make sense; capitalization of names and every starting word on each paragraph is
significant for formal writings. Nevertheless, the grammatical aspect of an educational material
constitutes the general formatting of the work through language structure and application.
Various rules ought to be considered to make the content more comfortable to be read
and understood. Examples of the structures that require attention include sentences and
paragraphs, phrases and clauses, and proper choice of words. Research is also vital in enriching
Alzahrani 6
the material while ensuring proper referencing of summarized, quoted, or paraphrased content to
avoid plagiarism. Through research, the ability to locate, extract, organize, and evaluate
appropriate information for the topic is paramount. Thus, academic research involves a particular
approach to detailed investigation and methodology of specific fields of study. Another critical
writing skill is knowing the format of the piece of writing intended. With the proper formatting,
logical content can be presented systemically to fit well with the readers.
